Paphos School Children – New Education Alternative
The Cerva Learning Center offers an alternative to Paphos School Children!
Tsada-based “CERVA LEARNING CENTER ” opens in September, based on International Christian principles.
One of the biggest decisions a parent can make is the selection of their child’s education. Starting September 2009, the parents of Paphos children, from pre-school all the way up to secondary education, are being offered a new and exciting alternative to the existing educational provision in the area.
Supervised and founded by Principal Noula Cerva. Noula brings a wealth of training and experience as a qualified Montessori teacher, a mother and more recently as a Certified Learning Supervisor with Christian Education Europe.
Believing passionately in the need for an education which lays a strong emphasis on ethical and character-building principles, Noula was inspired to set up this new establishment after studying the self-paced ACE (Accelerated Christian Education) curriculum in the UK which has already been incorporated into thousands of schools in over 100 countries worldwide.
“The greatest gift God has given us are our children. The greatest gift we in turn can give our children is an education that establishes wisdom, character and success for life” says Principal Noula, who is also an experienced youth group leader. “We offer parents and students a win-win situation – lower fees, a curriculum leading to a recognised International Certificate of Christian Education accepted by Universities such as Oxford and Harvard, and a flexible incredibly varied new way of learning which children love”.
Called a “Learning Center ” rather than a school, the ACE curriculum offers a self-paced system in which the learners develop strong personal goal setting skills. Every day each student sets their own personal goals – in association with the supervisor who ensures that these goals are realistic and achievable. This results in each learner developing in self confidence and a strong sense of self worth and independence progressing at their own pace. The difference between this supervised self study/learning curriculum and normal education curriculums is that students learn through “Mastery Learning” instead of the teacher teaching. This in turn lays a very strong foundation for children of any age for further studies at universities or colleges.
Specially designed diagnostic placement testing ensures that all learning students begin at the exact point of their academic needs. Additionally, further testing determines if there are any “learning gaps.” Students can simply fill in the “leaning gaps” without the stigma of “failing” a grade or falling behind. All students, of whatever ability level, are able to work on their levels of proficiency and proceed as they are capable.
The mission statement of Accelerated Christian Education and adopted in turn by the new Cerva Learning reads as follows: “Our purpose goes beyond simply helping students learn the academics required to enter university, college or get a good job. We desire to build a life-long burning passion to learn and grow spiritually. It is one thing to want children to be successful and quite another to provide the academic and character training to ensure their success.”
As well as covering all the usual subjects, the curriculum offers interesting Electives which include:
ECDL (European Computer Drivers License), Business Maths, Bible and Science, Health, Accounting, Typing, Car Mechanics, Speech and others.
